The science of natural rejuvenation

For how many years have you been living in concrete jungles? Perhaps you wake up to the blare of horns of vehicles in the neighborhood. Every day you encounter dust, smoke and exhaust. You end up feeling exhausted all the time with one busy day rolling into the next in an unending, meaningless way.

That’s the time to reconnect with nature and go for a stretch of ‘Forest Bathing’. Forest bathing means being immersed in the beauty and goodness of nature. Now you can take off to a jungle for 3 days 2 nights trip on a guided tour and stay. Our expert guides will take you around the jungle and during the night, you can stay in tents.

Forest bathing involves being in the midst of a verdant green forest. You breathe in the freshest, oxygen-rich air free of any dust and pollutants. In fact, if you breathe in mindfully, you can smell the grass, the sweet-sour smell of fruits, the heady aroma of flowers, the earthy smell of rotting undergrowth… depending on where you are at that moment.

You immerse yourselves in fresh, cool waters of wild streams and brooks, feeling it flow all over and beyond you. You feel the energy, the life-giving power of water. You savor the sunlight as it filters through the leaves and wonders at the magnificent latticework of filtered green light that hits your eye. You see stretches of wildflowers, grasslands, the occasional deer or a rabbit. You are amazed by the multi-hued birds that chirp and hoot all day, speaking long-distance to their relatives half across the forest.

The practice of ‘Forest Bathing’ which is a loose translation of ‘Shinrin-yoku’ in Japanese, took toots in Japan where it was noticed that meditative introduction to plants, trees, the earth and nature, in general, had a salubrious effect on health. This interaction happens with all your senses actively and mindfully. Today, ‘Forest Bathing’ is recognized to have major preventive health benefits. The forest decreases levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body while increasing our sense of vigor.

When you are with nature, your mind is open, your senses are honed, you get exercise, you breathe in good quality air, drink pure water and enjoy the freshest fruits and vegetables. You learn to absorb your surroundings and be one with nature. A mere nature hike or trekking is not good enough.

Nature Bathing is mentally relaxing and fills your soul with happiness beyond recognition. Your senses are heightened. You listen to the smallest sounds, your sense of smell becomes acute, your eyes are relaxed and your knitted eyebrows learn to relax. You feel the wind, its coolness. You feel the earth with your feet and get used to walking barefoot at least for a bit. You learn about the plants, the trees and the fruits of the forest. You can hug any tree and be hugged back with its wooden warmness. You can talk to the plants and the occasional Myna and no one will be there to call you a nutcase.

Taking regular Nature Baths, at least a few times every year can spell magical benefits to your health. Scientists believe that antimicrobial essential oils or phytoncides – organic compounds released by the forest – actually have healing powers. They boost mood and immune system function in human body. They help reduce blood pressure, stress, anxiety, and confusion. They can even make you more creative! What’s more, you regain your childlike sense of wonder and amazement of nature and your surroundings.
