Tales of Edakochi

An Experiential Trip - On a land journey

  • It is a private island – and you and your loved ones are the only souls on it. Other than a couple of dogs, a cat, guinea fowls and hens.
  • Privacy, privacy and more privacy.
  • The Lake is like a mega-size private pool.
  • There’s never a dull moment with nothing much really to do except watch the birds, catch some fishes and the occasional wave hello to a fisherman on his boat.
  • Food is completely organic and absolutely tasty (Oh, the magic of Kerala Cuisine – rich and spicy!).
  • There’s no TV, no newspapers, no Internet, just a phone to reach you (if at all, in an emergency).

An Experiential Trip – On a land journey

For a traveller, Kerala can be stunning all year round, and everywhere. In fact, travelling across Kerala, is an education. So, we at Wandernow offer you yet another location – Edakochi – on the southern banks of the Kochi backwaters. Kochi can always regale you with stories of her history and unique ethnicity. Edakochi’s landscape, culture, good taste and love of food reflect the unique character of the place.

The most relaxing way to get to know the place is to do an easy hike. Walk around, ask the locals for the best tea shop, watch the prawns being caught by net from the natural farms, meet some of the local producers and try a healthy array of dishes for lunch.

Rice with pearlspot and prawns, covered and cooked in Kerala masala is a meal that will fill you with wonder. And then there is at a tiny place where you stop to learn how to make the ‘nettipattam’, the elephant caparison, a valuable showpiece. You can even be one among the members of a women’s self-help group at a meeting where they work together on various developmental projects.

At tea time in the evening, pick from an assortment of flavourful snacks. After tea, take a tuk-tuk ride to the main road. You will feel grateful to the locals for little things that you will hold as cherished memories.
